Question by Elie: What is the function of the spider in the loudspeaker?
I have a project about the electrodynamic loudspeaker, but there is a material I’m not knowing what it’s used for.It is the spider, I know it’s made from cotton… and I know where it is house, but i don’t know what’s its role in the electrodynamic loudspeaker. Also I am just an 11th grader so go simple on me with the explanation. Thx

The spider is just a suspension system to keep the coil in the centre of the gap in the magnet.

Question by tigrillen: what could trip the overload protection on an amplifier?
I usually use my mainframe through an amplifier to listen to music on speakers. Recently the amplifier suddenly shut down due to overload protection. I changed the amplifier (really tried 2 more, all with the same result). I tried a different mainframe, still the same, so it’s not the mainframe either. As I find it weird that I should happen to own 3 different amplifiers which have all the same problem, is there anything honestly obvious incorrect I could have done to produce this?

I would estimate you are not loading it accurately. Chances are you have a small in the speaker line.

Back in the 60′s and 70′s most people would associate drum kits with the traditional bass, snare, toms and cymbals set up with a rock and roll drummer bashing out some beats, seemingly in a world of their own. With the advancement of equipment this would soon change.
In the late 70′s equipment allowed for the introduction of electronic drum kits. Imagine if you told Keith Moon that his holy acoustic drum kit would be replaced with an electronic version. The proposition would have come across as being completely insane – and for excellent reason. Electronic kits back in those days were very basic and the feature of sound lacking to say the least.
These days though you’d find it very hard to choose based solely on the feature of the sound. In fact Bill Bruford of King Crimson was one of the first to introduce the electronic drum kit to his sets, and has nearly completely abolished the need for acoustic drums. You’ll find it very hard to notice the difference.
In some ways you can know the reticence of drummers to sell out to the digital age. Digital just doesn’t reasonably fit with the rock and roll image does it?! But, with more bands apt reliant on gigging to make an income and also with music genres constantly overlapping and morphing, bands need to be adaptable to change and how equipment can help them – even your excellent ancient rock and roll bands.
There is no doubt though that any drummer worth their salt will be able to make the most of the variant of the sound they produce through a variety of tricks (sorry I can’t tell you these – you’ll have to work them out for yourself). To progress as a drummer though and make a small bit more money for your back pocket, its vital there days to be adaptable to different styles of music, and who knows you might just get some session work.

Ever walk the streets of Manhattan, keeping an eye people in general, and seeing how many are absorbed with their current new electronics toy? If they are not discussion on their cell phone, then they are texting away to whoever it is on the other end nervously awaiting their essential message. With all you see, I would turn it into a game on my way home from the office and try to count how many people I would really see either discussion or texting before I made it onto my teach, which was all of 1½ blocks away. More often than not, I would count at least 25 or more individuals with a phone to their ear or their fingers feverishly keying in their message. By no means stopped to amaze me!! Where have the days of boom-boxes on one’s shoulder gone?!
Round 2 of excitement then usually came on my 50 mile teach ride home at night. With 75 minutes spent on the teach, there was always the ring of a cell phone or the tones of some other electronic device that would keep me and other fellow passengers awake. Not to mention the constant loud chatter that we would also have to place up with. Needless to say, it would lead to many appealing confrontations linking a weary passenger looking to get some sleep after a hard day at the office and a young commuter looking to arrange his or her date for the evening for all to hear. Some of the verbal chat cannot be repeated here!!
So, after years of seeing the advances in electronics and more and more people glued to their pieces of equipment while they’re walking or riding or, God help us, driving, I figured it was best to help feed the hungry masses rather than get worked up over it.
